What you need

  • A Shopify store on any plan
  • An Online Store 2.0 theme (Dawn, Sense, Studio, and most others from 2021 onward)
  • Win-Win Product Badges installed (it is free)

Step 1. Install the app

From the Shopify App Store, search for “Win-Win Product Badges” and click Install. The app will ask for the usual theme permissions, then drop you into the dashboard.

Step 2. Turn on the app embed

Shopify uses app embeds for theme app extensions. To activate badges on your storefront, you need to turn the embed on in your theme.

Open your theme editor from the Shopify admin. In the left sidebar, click the small app-embed icon (an eye with a circle around it). Find “Win-Win Product Badges” in the list and toggle it on. Save.

That single toggle is the only code-level step. From this point on, the app can render badges on your storefront.

Step 3. Turn on the Sale badge

Back in the Win-Win Product Badges dashboard, you will see a set of pre-built badges. The “Sale” badge is already configured to show on any product that has a compare-at price higher than its current price.

Toggle the Sale badge to Active. Save.

Step 4. Check your storefront

Open any product on your storefront that has a compare-at price. You should see a small “Sale” badge in the top-left of the product image. On your collection pages, the same badge shows up on the product cards.

If it does not appear, confirm the app embed is still toggled on in the theme editor and hard refresh the storefront.

Step 5. Customize (optional)

In the badge settings, you can change the color, text, position, or targeting rules. For example, you can swap “Sale” for your own copy, or restrict the badge to only show on products in a specific collection.

Troubleshooting

If the badge does not show, the two most common causes are: the app embed is off in the theme editor, or your theme is not Online Store 2.0. You can check by looking for the app-embed icon in the theme editor sidebar. If the icon is missing, your theme is older and you will need to upgrade.

For any other issue, ping support from inside the app and we will get back to you within a day.
