The short answer
Shopify admin has no way to create gift cards in bulk. You create them one at a time, and after each card is created Shopify only ever shows you the last four digits of the code. That is fine for a handful of cards and impossible for a promo run, a corporate order, or a platform migration.
Bulk Gift Cards fixes both problems in one pass. Upload a CSV with one row per card, or fill one form with a quantity and an amount, preview every row, then create the whole batch as native Shopify gift cards. The app stores every full code at creation, so you can search, reveal and export the list later.
Who this is for
Merchants running a promo where each customer needs their own code. Wholesale and corporate orders where a client buys 500 cards at $50 each. Stores migrating off Square, Toast, Lightspeed or Clover who need existing balances honoured on day one. What makes it different
Two things, and they are both boring until the day you need them.
The first is currency. Of the dozen bulk gift card apps on the Shopify App Store, only two say anything at all about multi-currency gift cards. Everything else issues in your store’s base currency and leaves your EU and UK customers doing mental math at checkout. Bulk Gift Cards sets currency per row, so a single CSV can produce USD, CAD, EUR and GBP cards in one run.
The second is the codes. Shopify masks gift card codes after creation. If your app does not capture the full code at the moment it creates the card, that code is unrecoverable, and you will find that out on the day a customer emails asking you to resend theirs. Every code is captured here at creation and stays searchable and exportable.
Pricing without a percentage
Three of the highest-rated gift card apps on the App Store charge a monthly fee plus a percentage of gift card value, typically 1 to 2.5 percent. On $50,000 of gift cards issued that is $500 to $1,250 a month on top of the subscription. Bulk Gift Cards is a flat fee. How do I create gift cards in bulk on Shopify?
Shopify admin creates gift cards one at a time, so bulk creation needs an app. With Bulk Gift Cards you either upload a CSV with one row per card or fill a single generator form with a quantity and an amount. The app previews every row, flags errors, then creates all the cards as native Shopify gift cards in one run. The free plan creates 20 cards per batch and Pro is unlimited.
Can I create Shopify gift cards in more than one currency?
Yes. Bulk Gift Cards lets you set the currency per row, so one CSV can create USD, CAD, EUR and GBP cards in the same batch. Most bulk gift card apps on the Shopify App Store do not mention currency handling at all, which is why merchants selling in multiple markets end up issuing everything in their store's base currency.
Can I import existing gift card codes from another platform?
Yes. If you are moving from Square, Toast, Lightspeed, Clover or another Shopify store, you can import the existing codes and balances so your customers' old cards keep working. Put the existing code in the code column of the CSV instead of leaving it blank for a generated one.
Where do the gift card codes go after they are created?
Every code is saved by the app at creation. You can search history by code, email or note, reveal any code, and export the whole batch as a CSV. This matters because Shopify only shows the last four digits of a gift card code after it is created, so if the app does not capture the code at creation the full code is gone.
Are these real Shopify gift cards?
Yes. The app creates native Shopify gift cards through the Shopify API. There is no separate balance ledger and no third-party wallet, so cards redeem at checkout exactly like any gift card created in Shopify admin, and they keep working if you uninstall the app.
Does it email the gift cards to customers?
Optionally, per row. If a row has a customer email and notify is set, Shopify sends that customer the gift card notification. Leave notify off and the card is created silently, which is what you want when you are producing codes for a print run, a corporate client, or a promo insert.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan creates 20 gift cards per batch with the full CSV import, preview, multi-currency and export features. Pro at $49 a month removes the batch limit. There is no percentage fee on gift card value on any plan.
