Custom builds
Custom Shopify Plus development for merchants doing over $2M a year.
When your business runs on a process Shopify cannot express and no App Store app fits, we build it as a private app on your store. Store credit and voucher programs, corporate accounts on one invoice, checkout rules, POS and online in one system, and the integrations and reports around them. Written spec, fixed price, live in weeks.

Who this is for
We take custom work from Shopify Plus merchants doing more than $2M a year. That is a deliberate line, not a boast. The builds we do move real money: store credit balances that a client company is paying for, invoices a finance team relies on, discounts that run on every order in every store. That kind of system needs a database, backups, monitoring and someone on call, and it only makes sense at a scale where the program is worth more than the system costs to run properly.
Below that size, one of our App Store apps is nearly always the right answer. Bulk Store Credit issues credit to thousands of customers from a CSV on any plan. Bulk Gift Cards creates hundreds of gift cards in one run. If that is what you need, we will tell you on the first reply and save everyone a call.
The merchants who get the most from a custom build usually look like one of these:
- A multi-location retailer (often five to fifty stores plus a website) with a corporate or program sales channel that staff run by hand today.
- A B2B or wholesale seller whose buyers need accounts, caps, approvals and one invoice, and whose current answer is spreadsheets and email.
- A DTC brand that has outgrown what discount codes and loyalty apps can express and needs pricing or checkout logic that is specific to the business.
What we build
Each of these is a page of its own with the details, the Shopify building blocks we use, and the questions merchants ask before they commit.

Bulk operations and migrations
Moving a voucher, gift card or credit program out of a legacy system and into Shopify, with balances intact and every code captured. Usually part of one of the builds above, sometimes the whole job.
How an engagement runs
The process is the same every time, because the surprises in custom work almost always come from a scope that was never written down.
- Brief. You send the form below or an email. We reply within one business day with either a scoping call time or an honest "this is not a custom job, use X".
- Scoping call, 30 minutes. You describe the process in your own words. We ask about volumes, locations, who touches it, and what "done" looks like on launch day.
- Written spec, in your terminology. A shared document you can edit. Every screen, every rule, every report, every integration event, and what is explicitly out of scope. We use your names for things, not ours.
- Fixed price and a date. Quoted from the signed-off spec. Two payments, one at signing and one at launch. If your date is fixed by a client or a season, the plan is built backward from it.
- Build on your store. The app is installed on your store from the first week, so your team tests real flows with real products and locations as we go. You see working software weekly, not a demo at the end.
- Launch, then run. A go-live checklist, staff training notes for anything that changes at the register or in admin, and a 90 day stabilisation window. After that you choose the run model: managed by us, hosted by us, or handed over to your team.
Why we build on native Shopify objects
A lot of custom Shopify work fails a year later for one reason: the important data lived in the agency's database. The store moved on, the agency did not, and a program worth real money was stuck in a system nobody could touch.
We take the opposite approach. Store credit balances are native Shopify store credit on the customer record, so they redeem at checkout and at Shopify POS without a line of our code in the path, and they appear in Shopify's own finance reports. Companies, locations and payment terms are Shopify B2B objects. Configuration and program membership live in metafields. Discount and validation logic runs as Shopify Functions inside checkout. Our app supplies the rules, the bulk tooling, the reporting and the integrations. If the app is switched off tomorrow, the balances, the companies and the history are still in your store.
A worked example: an employer-funded safety gear program
This is the shape of a build we scoped in 2026 for a workwear and safety retailer with eight stores and a website. A client company wanted to give each of its 350 field employees $100 of safety gear credit for a quarter, on a hard start date, with the retailer billing the client only for what was redeemed.
By hand, that program is a spreadsheet of names, a stack of paper vouchers or a shared discount code, staff at eight registers checking eligibility, and a finance person reconciling it at month end. It works for one client. It does not work for five.
Built properly, it looks like this:
- A company pool per client, funded to a cap, with the client's contact, program dates and expiry rules attached.
- A roster upload (CSV of names and emails) that creates or matches customer records, links them to the company, and issues native store credit to every one of them in one run. New hires added mid-quarter get credited the same way.
- Redemption online and at all eight registers through native Shopify store credit, with staff training notes covering the one thing POS does not do today, which is verify identity before applying a balance.
- Product rules so the credit applies to safety gear and not to everything in the store, enforced in checkout by a Shopify Function.
- A reconciliation report per company per period: issued, redeemed, expired, remaining. The redeemed number is the invoice basis, so it has to be right and it has to be reproducible.
- Events into the retailer's own Klaviyo (credit issued, balance reminder, expiry warning) so their marketing team owns the messaging and the program does not depend on our sender.
- A phase two client portal, so the client's HR team can add and remove employees themselves, scheduled after the launch date rather than risking it.
The retailer's own promise to its corporate clients was one program, one source, one invoice. The build is the system that keeps that promise without a person keeping it by hand, and the reason they can confidently take on the next five clients.
Things merchants ask us to build
If your question sounds like one of these, you are in the right place:
- custom store credit program for a Shopify Plus store
- employee purchase program on Shopify
- employer-funded uniform or safety gear allowance on Shopify
- corporate accounts on Shopify with one monthly invoice
- B2B voucher program on Shopify
- store credit that works at Shopify POS and online
- custom discount logic with Shopify Functions
- checkout UI extension that shows a program balance
- Klaviyo and Shopify Flow integration for store credit events
- bulk gift cards for corporate orders on Shopify Plus
- migrate a voucher or gift card program into Shopify
- reconciliation report for store credit issued and redeemed
What we do not do
Theme design and redesigns. Migrating a store onto Shopify from Magento, WooCommerce or anywhere else. Running ads, SEO or email marketing. General staff augmentation or an outsourced dev team. Full ERP implementations. If that is the job, we will say so and, where we can, point you to someone good at it.
Custom Shopify Plus development, common questions
Who is custom Shopify Plus development from Win-Win Apps for?
Shopify Plus merchants with more than $2M in annual revenue who have a business process Shopify and the App Store cannot run for them. Typical clients are multi-location retailers, B2B and wholesale sellers, and DTC brands with a corporate or program sales channel. Under that size, one of our App Store apps is almost always the better answer and we will say so.
What kinds of custom Shopify apps do you build?
Store credit and voucher programs (an employer funds credit for its employees, or a brand runs an allowance program), corporate accounts billed on one invoice, checkout extensions and Shopify Functions for custom discount, payment, delivery and validation rules, programs that redeem identically at Shopify POS and online, and integrations with Klaviyo, Shopify Flow, accounting and ERP systems, with the reporting a finance team needs to invoice and reconcile.
How long does a custom Shopify Plus build take?
Scoping takes about a week: a 30 minute call, then a written spec you can edit. Most builds are live on your store three to six weeks after the spec is signed off. Larger phases, like a self-serve client portal, are usually scheduled as a second release so the core program can launch on your date.
How is a custom build priced?
A fixed price for the build, quoted after the written spec, so the number does not move once you have agreed the scope. There is no hourly billing during the build. After launch you choose how it runs: a monthly plan where we host, monitor and support it, or a handover where your team hosts it. We do not take a percentage of the credit, orders or invoices that move through the system.
Do you build on native Shopify store credit or your own ledger?
Native. Store credit balances live on the Shopify customer record, redeem automatically at checkout and at Shopify POS, and show up in Shopify's own reports. Company data uses Shopify B2B companies and metafields. The custom app adds the program rules, bulk tooling, reporting and integrations on top. Nothing important is trapped in a parallel database, so the program survives an app change or a handover.
Can the program work in physical stores as well as online?
Yes. Shopify POS redeems native store credit at the register on POS app version 10.2 and later with new customer accounts enabled. For anything the register does not do out of the box, such as looking up a program balance or issuing credit on the spot, we build a POS UI extension so staff stay inside the Shopify POS app.
Who owns the code and the data?
You get a perpetual licence to the app built for you, installed on your store as a private custom app. Win-Win Apps keeps the underlying intellectual property so we can keep improving the shared components. All program data lives in your Shopify store. If you move to self-hosting, we hand over the repository and a runbook.
What if we also need the App Store version?
Some builds start from one of our published apps. Bulk Store Credit already handles CSV issuance, segments and campaigns, and Bulk Gift Cards handles multi-currency gift card runs. When a custom program needs those pieces we reuse them rather than rebuilding, which is a big part of why builds land in weeks.
What do you not do?
Theme design and redesigns, migrating a store onto Shopify from another platform, running ads or email marketing, general staff augmentation, and ERP implementations as a whole. If your need is one of those we will point you to someone who does it well.
