Where they actually differ
These two apps solve the same problem and they are closer than most comparisons on this site. BatchCard is a good app at a good price and it does not deserve a hatchet job.
Three real differences.
The free plan does different things. BatchCard’s free tier creates 25 cards a month and exports the codes, but CSV import is a paid feature. That means the free plan cannot do the thing you installed a bulk gift card app for. Bulk Gift Cards puts the full import, preview, currency and export flow on the free plan and caps batch size at 20 instead. Different philosophy: BatchCard gates the feature, we gate the volume.
Currency. BatchCard’s listing says nothing about currency. That is not a criticism of the app so much as a signal about who it was built for. If your store sells only in USD it is a non-issue. If you sell in four markets, currency is the first question and this comparison is already over.
Where the ceiling sits. BatchCard caps cards per month on every tier below Business: 500 on Starter, 2,500 on Pro, unlimited at $24.99. Bulk Gift Cards caps batch size on free and removes it entirely on Pro. If you run a single 3,000-card corporate order, BatchCard needs the Business tier and we need Pro.
Where BatchCard is genuinely better
Price, obviously. $4.99 against $49 is a real gap and for a small store issuing a few hundred cards a year it is the whole argument.
Google Sheets import is nice and we do not have it. Klaviyo and Shopify Flow integration on the higher tiers is a real advantage if your gift card flow is part of a bigger automation.
Which to install
Pick BatchCard if you sell in one currency, want the cheapest workable paid tier, and your gift card volume is predictable enough to fit a monthly cap.
Pick Bulk Gift Cards if you sell in more than one currency, want the full import flow before you pay anything, or run occasional large batches that would blow through a monthly cap.
