The search layer
Shopify App Store search is the primary install source, 60-70 percent of all new installs. If you are not ranking for category keywords, you are invisible.
What to optimize
App name and tagline. The first 40 characters carry all the weight. Put your primary keyword here.
Description first paragraph. The algorithm weights the first 200 words heavily. Front-load with use cases and keywords.
Screenshot captions. The alt-text captions on your App Store images are indexed.
Reviews
Recent reviews weight more than old ones. A store with 50 reviews in the last 90 days beats a store with 500 reviews from 3 years ago. Ask for reviews in-app at the right moment.
Category hygiene
Pick the right primary category. If you are a badge app, “Merchandising” not “Marketing”. Wrong category means wrong search traffic.
Freshness
Shopify favors apps that update. Monthly minor updates (release notes visible) signal activity.
